Lip Syncing Test Shot

DigiPak Draft

Here is one of the drafts of our Digipak we asked for feedback and most of them said that the italics on the left hand corner were very hard to read. We were hoping to find some kind of solution to this such as adding a background to make it clearer or trying different fonts.
Here we tried with a faded background and the font a little clearer but not much and we felt this just didn't fit in with our front cover as a whole.
We wanted to add a bar code and the label Kanye West is signed to, to make it more realistic. We feel we should move then label icon as this is not very clear and very hard to read in the bottom right hand corner.

Here i feel that the sign is much more clearer i feel and look more professional.

Kanye West

The Facts:

Name: Kanye Omari West

Born: 8th June 1977

Labels: G.O.O.D  Music, Roc-a-fella, Def Jam

"His style of production originally used pitched-up vocal samples from soul songs incorporated with his own drums and instruments. However, subsequent productions saw him broadening his musical palette and expressing influences encompassing '70s R&B, baroque pop, trip hop, arena rock, folk, alternative, electronica, synth-pop, and classical music."

Looks: He is most famous for wearing 'shutter sunglasses' this is how his style rapidly grew and is now known not only for his music but sense of style.

His albums:

  • The College Dropout (2004)
  • Late Registration (2005)
  • Graduation (2007)
  • 808s & Heartbreak (2008)
  • My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)
  • Watch the Throne (2011) (with Jay-Z)

Values:
He was very much a family man. When his mother passed in 2007 he was very distraught. He also believes in God and is very passionate about that.

Target Audience:
I believe Kanye has a very wide audience that being from 14-25 both males and females.

Videos:
All this videos vary in style. Most commonly they feature girls in very little clothes which complies with the Voyeurism theory which we plan to include in our video. Some are very centred around him both performance and narrative which we are going incorporate into our videos.

Theorists

In our music video we are going to use many of the media theorists. As media changes so does all these theories however we have many theories which relate to our chosen song such as Voyeurism this is when it seems to be filmed through a 'males perception' of how life should be objectifying women in many different ways, this satisfys the sexual male mind. This will be shown in our video as we are using fragmented body parts such as the mouth, legs and eyes. Using shots such as close ups and mid shots allow us to see a specific object, in this case being women which falls into the conventions of Voyeurism. The use of high heels and make up has very strong sexual connotations and is therefore part of the voyeurist idea. Our video uses voyeurism in scenes when the female models are walking up and down the catwalk wearing heels, focusing on certain parts of their body creating an ideal image typical of the genre our music video is. We also are including a scene when models are getting ready and our old model is crying it is into a mirror, which is a typical convention of voyeurism. Voyeurism is appropriate for our genre, as found in our research and we discovered that sexually objectifying women is a key convention of the R&B and hip hop genre.

The video is also narrative and performance, the non linear narrative aspect encourages multiple viewings because it interests the audience and makes them want to watch it again to realise what it is really about, by using the correct mis-en-scene we will create authencity of storyline making it believable and appropriate to the song. The performance aspect of the video makes the artist look credible and like they have genuine talent. Our video used slight intertextuality as the narrative is inspired by the film Black Swan, but there is no straight links to other media texts.

Levan Test Shots

Here is a picture of me to practice a shot for our video.

Here are some pictures of the dance Levan will be performing in our video. We wanted to incoporate
street dancing into our video as this is a typical convention of the RnB and Hip Hop genre. We wanted to focus on both the performance and the storyline as aposed to one or the other. This focuses on not just the artists image but real life events.
